The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Kaduna State Chapter has officially suspended its planned strike action, citing productive discussions and agreements reached with the State Government.
Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu, the State Chairman, and Comrade Adamu Ayuba Kaltungo, the State Secretary, announced this decision in a press release on October 24, 2025.
The Union highlighted several key approvals and concessions made by the State Government. These include the implementation of the National Minimum Wage and its consequent adjustments for teachers employed by Local Governments, effective October 2025.
The Government has also approved the domestication of a 40-year service duration and a retirement age of 65 years for teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
A collective agreement has been signed by the affected Trade Unions and Government representatives, paving the way for the suspension of the strike.
The Union acknowledged the correction of mistaken remittance of NUT check-off dues and appreciated the Government’s assurance that future remittances will be accurately processed to maintain industrial harmony.
The Union expressed gratitude to individuals and organizations that encouraged the State Government to address teachers’ concerns. Comrades Dalhatu and Kaltungo commended the courageous and resilient teachers, urging them to remain calm as they await the payment of October salaries.
