Some students from Ahmadu Bello University have been awarded cash gifts at the 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES 26), held in Abuja last Thursday.

They were recognized for representing Nigerithe a/Southern Africa (Huawei) region at the 2025/2026 Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals in China last June.

The competition took place in Shenzhen, China, from June 2 to June 5, 2026, in the Network, Cloud, Computing, and AI/Innovation tracks, with 177 teams from 40 countries participating.

The 2025 – 2026 competition began in October 2025 and involved over 220,000,000 students worldwide.

A key highlight of the 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES 26), held in Abuja on Thursday, July 30, 2026, was the presentation of cash prizes to students who made ABU and Nigeria proud at the global finals in China.

A total of N 16 million was distributed among Nigerian students who won various awards at the Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals in China last June.

For example, the Nigeria Computing Track team, featuring ABU’s Yunusa Mohammed, which placed 2nd, received N2.5 million. The two Nigerian Cloud Track teams (Team 1 and Team 2), both featuring ABU students Abdulroqeeb Adekunle, Shefiu Wakili, and Musa Yakubu, who claimed 1st place, were awarded N3.5 million. The all-female Nigerian Network Track team, including ABU student Kumba- Bana Tekanyi, was awarded N5 million for winning the grand prize at the Huawei Global Finals.

The Nigerian AI/Innovation team (TeamABU 2026 – Ruqqayyah Labo, Khadija Khalid, and Grace Olorunfemi) received N 5 million for winning the grand prize at the global finals with ParaVision.

The 3rd edition of The Huawei Education Summit (THES 26) was attended by leaders from NUC, NBTE, NCCE, and ASCON.

The event also saw the presence of Vice- Chancellors, ICT Directors, and academics from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

This year’s Huawei Education Summit theme was ‘Accelerating Digital Education in Nigeria: Leveraging Emerging Technologies for Transformative Education.’ Several presentations were made during the well- attended summit.

Prof. M. B. Mu’azu, Lead of the ABU Huawei Advanced ICT Academy Support Center (AIASC), discussed ‘Insights to IGR for Schools.’ At the same time, Prof E A Adedokun, Director of ABU IAIICT, spoke on ‘Case Sharing: ABU Smart Campus. ‘

Dr Bashir Sani, ABU Huawei AIASC Technical Lead; Nasiru Lawal, ABU Network Refresh Project Manager & Huawei AIASC Instructor; and Maryam Ololade Jimoh also participated in the event.
