From Sidi Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau
The Zamfara State Government has appreciated the recent deployment of 4 army battalions by the federal government which was targeted at ensuring quick restoration of normalcy in the state.
This was disclosed in an emergency press briefing convened by the state Commissioner for Information, Hon. Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, saying the deployment would serve as enforcement measure for the number of personnel already at the war front.
The Commissioner maintained that as part of collaboration between the state and federal government, four security battalions have been allocated to Bakura, Shinkafi, Kaura Namoda, and Anka Local government areas.
“This allocation is an important component of the joint efforts of the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government to strengthen security coverage and improve the protection of lives and property.
“The allocation of the battalions to these strategic locations is intended to enhance security arrangements and support efforts to address criminal activities affecting communities across the state.
“The Zamfara State Government appreciates the Federal Government’s collaboration and recognises the importance of sustained cooperation between the two levels of government in confronting the prevailing security challenges.
“We urge the relevant authorities to maintain effective coordination, intelligence sharing, and appropriate logistical support to ensure that security interventions contribute meaningfully to protecting vulnerable communities.
“We also call on residents of the affected local government areas and neighbouring communities to cooperate with authorised security agencies by providing credible information that can assist in preventing criminal activities”.
Dantawasa reiterated that, the position of the Zamfara State Government on banditry remains clear as it will not relent in its efforts to protect innocent citizens and restore lasting peace, therefore, individuals involved in banditry are urged to abandon criminal activities and surrender through recognised and lawful channels. However, surrender must not be interpreted as automatic immunity from legal responsibility.
The Commissioner further appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and united in the face of the current security challenges, “We urge citizens to report suspicious movements and credible threats to the appropriate security agencies.
“Community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, and other stakeholders are encouraged to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen cooperation with lawful authorities. Residents should avoid spreading rumours, unverified reports, or inflammatory messages that may create panic or place innocent people at risk.
“We further appeal to the Federal Government to sustain and strengthen its support for security operations in Zamfara State through effective coordination, intelligence sharing, and the deployment of additional personnel where operationally necessary”, Dantawasa has advocated.
According to him, the government also calls on the people to continue praying for peace and security in the state and the nation. “Prayer, vigilance, responsible citizenship, and cooperation with lawful security initiatives are all important in addressing the current challenges”.
