From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed that the state chairmen of the Action Alliance (AA) elected at the June 2023 national convention of the party held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital be recognized as the state chairmen of the party forthwith.

The development, it was gathered, formed part of the resolutions reached at the recent meeting of the commission held at its headquarters in Abuja on 13th June 2025.

A memo with reference number INEC/DE/29/2025 signed by Olayide Okuonoghae, the Director, Commission Secretariat, indicates that the state chairmen elected at the Abeokuta convention are the recognized chairmen of the party and therefore should be recognized by all the directorates of the commission.

The memo dated 13th June 2025, which was sighted by our correspondent, directed the leadership of the commission, including all the various directors, to give recognition to the state chairmen forthwith.

The chairmen were elected on 7th October 2023 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, at the convention of the party monitored by officials of the commission.

The memo also directed that the names of the elected chairmen be posted on the commission’s portal forthwith.

Recall that Prof Mahmood Yakubu-led INEC had failed to recognize the state chairmen elected at the Abeokuta convention of the Action Alliance despite various court judgments.

However, it was not certain whether or not the commission had implemented the directives.

But a source in the Action Alliance informed that the state chairmen are yet to be recognized by INEC, even as their names are yet to be restored on the commission’s portal in contradiction to the memo.
