The Katsina State Commissioner for Environment, Professor Mohamned Al-Amin said that 48 Wild Animals of different species have been intercepted from suspected wildlife traffickers by officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Command of Kano/ Jigawa Command along Kano and Daura road.
Al-amin said the that the development is deeply disturbing and a threat to nature and environment

He noted that the dozen animals might fall into uncertainty if not because of their rescue by the Nigeria Customs service.
He explained that the interception by the customs took place on 25 August 2026 at about 8:30 p.m which involved 15 primates which includes chimpanzees, baby gorillas and bush babies; four caracals and a civet cat; 25 wild birds, bustards and rock fowls; two albino crocodiles and a honey badger.

He said that three suspects were arrested and handed over to the Special Wildlife Office at the Nigeria Customs Service headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
“As an environmentalist, this is shocking, to illegally captured, assembled transport these animals for sale eslewhere, this is threat to our natural heritage”
The commissioner Express determination to strengthen relationship between Katsina State Ministry of Environment and the Nigeria Customs Service to secure the animals.
He also expressed readiness to use his network and connections with development partners within and outside the country to support the fight against wildlife trafficking for socio- economic benefits.
Al-Amin also called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Ministry of Environment and National Parks to protect the environment.
