The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) has appointed Comrade Kabiru Salisu Dabai as the Acting National President of the union following the demise of its former President, Dr. Mohammed Tahir, after a protracted illness.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Dabai said he is committed to building on the legacy of his predecessor and moving the union forward despite the challenges ahead.
“Following the demise of our former President, Dr. Mohammed Tahir, I have been appointed as the Acting National President of the union. I am fully aware that this responsibility comes with great challenges. However, with the grace of Almighty Allah and the support of our members, we are determined to continue from where he stopped,” he said.
The acting president noted that his administration would prioritize engagement with stakeholders, including national and state executives, as part of efforts to strengthen the union and improve member participation.
He added that sensitization campaigns would be intensified to educate members on the benefits of unity and how to take full advantage of opportunities within the union.
On the issue of multiple taxation, Dabai disclosed that the union would collaborate with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to find lasting solutions.
“As part of our immediate priorities, we will engage all stakeholders to address key challenges affecting our members, particularly multiple taxation, which continues to burden traders. I recently received complaints from our members at the Alaba Cattle Market in Lagos regarding this issue,” he said.
Addressing compliance with federal government directives, Dabai emphasized the need for members to adhere strictly to regulations, especially the ban on transporting persons on trailers conveying cattle and foodstuffs.
He revealed that the union has deployed taskforce teams across the country to monitor compliance and curb violations.
“We will intensify awareness campaigns on compliance with government regulations, particularly the directive prohibiting the conveyance of persons on trailers transporting cattle and foodstuffs, to ensure safety and adherence to the law,” he stated.
According to him, the taskforce teams are currently operating in Jebba (Niger State), Lokoja, Gada Biu, Makurdi, and Katsina-Ala to support members and enforce compliance.
Dabai reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting the interests of its members and fostering a more organized and prosperous trading environment across Nigeria.
