Zamfara: Police arrest notorious bandit, recover arms, rescue 5 kidnapped victims

The Zamfara State Police Command has succeeded in the arrest of a notorious bandit, Muhammadu Dan Kani in possession of eleven fabricated AK47, 25 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 6 live cartridges, who according to records was involved in numerous banditry cases across the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Police Command in Gusau, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim B. Maikaba, said the suspected notorious bandit, Dan Kani, who hails from Ƙuraje village under Bungudu Local Government area, was trailed and arrested in Funtua Local Government of Katsina State while on his way back to Zamfara from Kano.
“The suspected notorious bandit is currently giving helpful information which could be utilized to trace the manufacturing source of the fabricated guns and to subsequently arrest other members of the network”, CP Maikaba has assured.
In the same vein, the Anti-kidnapping Unit on routine patrol along Gummi-Sokoto road under had intercepted a Toyota Corolla car, 4 AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 4 empty AK-47 magazines were discovered in the course of ‘Stop and Search” there concealed in the vehicle.
“The items mentioned were concealed in a sack of oranges belonging to one Nasuru Dawan Jiya, who confessed to transporting the weapons to bandits in Gurusu Village under Bukkuyum local government area, investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices and dismantle the entire supply chain.
“Similarly, on 19th September 2025, while on intensive patrol along the Gusau-Sokoto highway near the Gada Biyu area in Gusau the state capital, operatives had successfully intercepted and apprehended two male suspects riding on motorcycles. Both suspects were found in possession of 18 fabricated firearms”, CP Maikaba has informed.
The Commissioner further informed that, on 14th September 2025, based on credible intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Alhaji Shehu Aliyu in Gurusu Village. He was found with 9 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, adding that, “Aliyu is a known and repeat drug dealer with a criminal record spanning over six years. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
“During investigation the suspect confessed to have been part of the kidnapping gang terrorizing Tsafe, Yandato and Yanwarin Daji. He further admitted to being an active member of the Kachalla Dan Goggo Gang, a criminal syndicate known for orchestrating high profile kidnapping within Damba, Mareri and Saminaka areas all in Gusau L.G.A”.
“Similarly, In the early hours of 21st September 2025, following intelligence from local communities, a joint operation led by DPO Talata Mafara, CSP Garba Musa Mahuta, in collaboration with Community Protection Guards (CPG) and local vigilantes, successfully rescued five 5 kidnapped victims from Wanu Village, in Anka LGA.
“The victims were intercepted while being relocated by their captors from a bandits camp in Barikin Daji forest through Maradun LGA. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in their safe rescue. All victims were medically checked and reunited with their families”, the CP has added.
