The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, describing the act as barbaric and a direct violation of the rule of law.
The police also promised to prosecute everyone involved.
In a press statement signed by DSP Mansir Hassan, an inspector, Police Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, the Command said the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2026.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos received a distress call that a woman was being attacked by a mob over accusations of child theft, with no evidence to support the claim.
Responding quickly, the DPO led officers to the scene, rescued the woman, and took her to the police station for safety and investigation.
The woman was a native of Maraban Jos.
Despite the rescue, DSP Hassan said a large crowd, numbering hundreds, later stormed the police station and besieged it.
They overpowered the officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, killed her, and then set her body on fire.
The Command called the attack criminal and warned that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands.
Several suspects have already been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for others involved.
An investigation is ongoing, and the Command assured that all culprits will face justice.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, PSC, mni, warned that the Command will not tolerate jungle justice, mob violence, or attacks on police stations and personnel.
Citizens are urged to report suspicious persons or activities to the police and to allow due process to take its course.
“The Kaduna State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and upholding justice according to the law,” DSP Hassan stated.
