By Usman Abubakar Maiduguri

A group of wives and sisters of soldiers under 7 Div of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, detained for alleged menial offences have passionately pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to grant their husbands president pardon.

The leader of the group, Mrs Rose Emmanuel David, alleged while addressing newsmen in Maiduguri, Wednesday, October 1 that about 30 of the offending soldiers are currently detained at the Division’s garrison for between several months and one year.

“It is important to remember that amnesty has been extended to repentant insurgents and bandits who once raised arms against the state,” the ladies argued, pleading: “These soldiers are Nigerians too — men who once risked their lives to defend our people and preserve our nation.”

They pleaded further: “They deserve the same mercy, so they can once again fight for peace, unity, and security,” declaring, “This is not a call for sympathy, but for justice with compassion.”

They pleaded that the service and sacrifices of their detained husband’s and brothers should not be forgotten, adding that granting them pardon will not only restore their dignity but also strengthen the bond of trust between the nation and those who defend it.

“We appeal for mercy. We appeal for a Presidential Pardon. We appeal for the support of all Nigerians,” they cried.

They said the detained soldiers deeply reflected, and now seek a second chance to serve their country with renewed loyalty.

“We respectfully call on His Excellency, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to grant them a presidential pardon.

“We also appeal to the National Assembly, the Executive Governor of Borno State, and all Nigerians of goodwill to support this plea,” they said.

God bless the President.God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The 7 Div had not issued any response on the detention as at reporting time. END
