From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Kaduna State Council, has urged the government at all levels to patronize indigenous construction firms as part of efforts to promote made in Nigeria products to the outside world.

The Chairman of the State Council, Surveyor Daudu Andrew, made the call while presenting an award of excellence to FARMTRAC Nigeria Ltd in Kaduna.

Daudu Andrew explained that major construction projects in Nigeria were handled by foreign contractors, due to the wrong notion that only foreign companies can execute big and complex projects.

He stressed that though foreign firms were still dominating construction in Nigeria, some local firms are changing the narrative and one of such in the forefront is FARMTRAC Nigeria Ltd.

According to him, as Surveyors they have conducted investigations and
noted that unlike other companies who import workers from outside the country, FARMTRAC remains committed to improving Nigeria by employing capable Nigerians as workers in the Company.

He cited the construction of the 10km Kachia township road project, a 10km road project in Sanga, composed of a 4km township and 6km bypass, and the 36km Kwassam-Gisheri Road including a 60m bridge in Kauru LGA.

“The 21km Laduga link road to Cattle Crossing in Kachia, the 15km Kafanchan township road were old projects that were re-awarded to our company, the GGSS, Kachia internal road, the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kachia internal roads, the Rimi College, Kaduna internal road and the Government College and Kaduna internal roads are also our project.”

Surveyor Daudu Andrew added that information reaching them on the Saminaka – Bauchi Road, the Damau Milk Farm link road, and an international project in Kano, suffice to make the Company stand tall.

According to him, going by all these track records as an indigenous company, the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors deemed it appropriate to confer the Award of Excellence on the company.

He stressed that the award is
to celebrate outstanding individuals and institutions for their role in positively shaping Nigeria with the sole aim of encouraging them to do more.

Receiving the award, the Managing  Director /Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FARMTRAC Nigeria Ltd Engr. Sadiq Abubakar promised that the award would spur the company to strive harder.

Engr. Sadiq Abubakar who is the Dan Iyan Tangale promised a good and profitable relationship with the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, adding that his doors are always open to them.

Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of FARMTRAC, Yusuf Micah assured that as an indigenous company, they are more determined to build the nation’s road networks for the benefit of Nigerians

“Going by international best practice, we are doing well, or even better than our foreign counterparts in the sector.”

“Our projects are out there for everyone to see.  We work with the clients, and we have the documents to prove that all the work we have done is in tandem with the geology of the area that we are building on.”

“Therefore, FARMTRAC is open for everybody to come and understand our level of professionalism and how much we are aiming to build up our Nigerian civil engineering sector.”

“We have the manpower, the machinery, and the technological know-how to do and execute any kind of engineering works, to move the country forward,” he said
