The 1982 alumni of the Old students of Rimi College, Kaduna, will hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of their Class Forum in Kaduna from Oct. 24 to Oct. 25.

A statement by the Chairman of the Class Forum, Mr Peter Sofa, and Secretary, Mr Daniel Laaki, said that the AGM would hold in the College’s Assembly Hall.

Sofa said that the AGM would feature discussions on the welfare of members and how to improve relationships with retired members.

“The AGM shall provide an avenue where members will examine how to relate more, while assisting and complementing each other.
“The members shall share life experiences with those who had retired expected to discuss life in retirement to help those still in service.

“It is expected that such discussions will prepare those still in service for life outside service,” he said.

Sofa added that the AGM would also be used to share experiences with current students seek to have some current students in the 76 years old institution.
“The school was established in 1949 and remained a boarding school till few years ago. It will be interesting to hear from current students what it means to be a student there today,” he said.

He said the old students regretted the downturn the school had suffered, especially since it became a Day School.

He decried the sale of about 83.5 per cent of its land to other institutions and private developers.
“We visited the school recently and most of us were moved to tears.
“Our former hostels, classes, dining halls, staff quarters, laundries, toilets, places of worship have been sold to people.
“Such places have since been turned into residents with private houses donning the entire landscape; residents struggle for spaces with what is left for the students.
“It is a very sorry sight. It is just a nauseating sight.

“We insisted on holding the AGM in the school this year so as to collectively see how bad the situation had become, and examine ways to discuss with the Kaduna State authorities.
“If we cannot overturn what has been done, we should, at least, be able to try to stop further sales of the very little space left for classes,” he said.

Sofa urged the old students to attend the AGM as very crucial issues would be discussed.
He said the AGM would be used to elect new officials to run the affairs of the body for the next three years.(NAN)
