The 105th Archbishop of Canterbury, Right Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, GCVO, is set to deliver a public lecture on inter-ethnic and religious harmony at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on January 29, 2026.
The lecture, titled ‘Building Inter-Ethnic and Religious Harmony in Nigeria: Pathways to National Unity,’_ is part of the university’s 45th Convocation Ceremony.
The event will take place at 10:00am at the Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, and is expected to attract dignitaries from various fields, including former Nigerian leaders, ministers, governors, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
Right Reverend Welby, who served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 2013 to 2024, has a strong background in conflict resolution and reconciliation, having worked with Anglican missions in Africa and the Middle East.
His experience includes negotiating a peaceful settlement between Shell Oil Company and the Ogoni people of Nigeria in 2005.
As Co-Director of Coventry Cathedral’s International Centre for Reconciliation, Welby has continued to work on reconciliation issues globally and advise on ethical and financial matters. He officiated at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and presided over the coronation of King Charles III.
