From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was postponed until April 14, 2026, for a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.

Lead counsel for the defendant, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), told journalists shortly after the court session that arguments on the bail application had been concluded.

He said both the defense and prosecution had presented their submissions before the court, and expressed optimism that justice would prevail.

“The bail application was argued and responded to, and the ruling has been scheduled for April 14. Any lawyer will be hopeful. We have made our case before the court, and this is a court of justice.
We look forward to the decision,” he said.

Iyamu also confirmed that the defense team would appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja on April 10 in a separate matter involving the Department of State Services (DSS).

“That’s a separate one. Every lawyer is ready. We have filed our papers, and we will be there.”

The former governor was brought before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on 10 counts of alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering, charges brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission.

Earlier, court proceedings were held under heavy security, with officers deployed around the premises to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

El-Rufai was taken to court after spending over a month in detention, drawing widespread public attention due to the high-profile nature of the case.
