Professor Adamu Ahmed has taken over the mantle of leadership at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) from Prof. Kabiru Bala as the 13th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The handover ceremony took place at the University Senate Chambers on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Speaking after taking over as the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed expressed hope to close the gap for timely impactful research that would create wealth and bring meaningful innovation.

He pledged to serve with diligence, humility, and fairness to continue upholding the global standard of the University.

Prof. Ahmed also said that he would encourage cooperation in research and innovation among staff and students.

“I do not have all the answers, but with the globally respected academics, strong student body, and dedicated administrators, we will make a difference”.

The new Vice-Chancellor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the ABU Governing Council for the vote of confidence by appointing him to steer the affairs of the university.

He used the occasion to appreciate the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, for his stewardship of the University, as well as acknowledge the support and encouragement of the university basketball family.

In his remarks, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated his successor and wished him a successful tenure.

Professor Bala appreciated the University’s Community for their support, criticisms, and words of encouragement that helped him weather the storms during his tenure.

Speaking earlier, the Ag. Registrar, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia, commended Prof Bala for being a good leader, as well as a mentor.

While welcoming the new Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Kankia emphasized that the handover should not be a change of title but a continuation of great things.

Highlights of the event were a goodwill message by a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic, Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, and photograph sessions.

The event was attended by Principal Officers of the University, Management Staff, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, and notable alumni from within and outside the country.
