From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has addressed a viral video circulating on social media that featured an anxious supporter during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Kaduna.

The Command’s spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, released a statement on Friday in Kaduna to clarify the situation.

He said that the video depicts a young supporter trying to enter a restricted area during Thursday’s official event at Murtala Square in Kaduna.

The individual has been identified as Umar Mohammed, a resident of Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, who is mentally challenged.

Investigations revealed that Mohammed is a devoted supporter of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.

He was permitted into the stadium wearing a campaign T-shirt and holding banners promoting the President and the Governor.

Preliminary findings show that he initially stood with other supporters before unexpectedly breaching protocol and jumping over the perimeter fence to get closer to the President.

Security personnel in the inner cordon quickly intercepted and arrested him without any incident.

During interrogation, he explained that his actions were motivated by anxiety and a strong emotional desire to meet both leaders.

A thorough search was conducted, and no incriminating items were found in his possession.

Hassan emphasized that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation or politicizing security matters for selfish or political gain. He noted that the viral video was manipulated to misrepresent the incident and mislead the public.

The command is investigating the source of this false narrative and will prosecute anyone found guilty of disseminating deliberate misinformation.
