The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) in Zaria has achieved a significant milestone in innovation by successfully conducting a test flight of drones developed by engineers at its Transport Technology Centre’s Drone Laboratory.
The demonstration, held at the NITT headquarters in Zaria, showcased the potential of drone systems to revolutionize Nigeria’s transportation and logistics sectors.
Bayero Salih Farah, the Director-General of NITT, who observed the test flight, expressed his satisfaction with the drones’ performance, describing the event as a crucial step toward advancing indigenous technology within the transportation industry.
“This is just the beginning. We look forward to NITT leading the incorporation of drone technology into the national transport system,” said Dr. Farah.
He reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to fostering innovation, emphasizing that “what moves the world forward is technology, and we should leverage our engineers to innovate.”
Earlier, Dr. Joshua Odeleye, the Director of the Transport Technology Centre (TTC), highlighted the strategic importance of drone technology in modern transport systems. He noted that drones could enhance logistics efficiency, monitor emissions, and promote safer, smarter mobility solutions.
Dr. Odeleye further stated that this exercise is part of NITT’s broader commitment to advancing research and technological innovation in Nigeria’s transport sector.
