From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’ has continued its efforts to combat smuggling, making notable seizures of foreign parboiled rice and handing over seized medicaments and chemicals to partner agencies.

This was contained in a statement signed by Saidu Nuruddeen, Chief Superintendent of Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit Zone B, and made available to the media in Kaduna today, Wednesday.

The statement stated that on August 3, 2025, operatives of the Unit intercepted a Daf tanker truck along Yauri-Kontagora Road in Kebbi State, which was found to be concealing 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice.

The duty paid value for the seized rice stands at N20,510,000.

The Comptroller FOU ‘B’, AM Alkali, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, emphasizing the Unit’s dedication to using proactive surveillance and intelligence to suppress smuggling activities and protect Nigeria’s economic interests.

He also appreciated the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi MFR, and his management team for their unwavering support.

Also, Comptroller Alkali congratulated the CGC on the recent extension of his tenure by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, describing it as a testament to the CGC’s visionary leadership and professional excellence.

In a separate effort to foster inter-agency collaboration, the FOU Zone B handed over seized items to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on July 17, 2025.

The handover included 58,740 sachets of medicaments and 27 cartons of Analgin injection to NAFDAC, and 3 sacks of Riodin chemical to NESREA.

This collaborative action highlights the unit’s comprehensive approach to enforcement and its commitment to public safety and environmental preservation.

Comptroller Alkali appreciated the continuous support and cooperation from the public as the operatives of the unit work tirelessly to secure the nation’s borders and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Nigeria’s economy.
