From Abubakar Abdullahi, in Lafia
Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, has rejected the position of the State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on the payment of N70,000 New National Minimum Wage by the State Government to Workers in the State.
The Association said it wants the State Government to first pay new national minimum wage to its members before implementation of promotions and arrears to civil servants in the state.
Comrade Suleiman Safiyanu Oshafu, the Chairman of the Association made the union’s position known while reading the resolutions reached during its emergency meeting in Lafia on Thursday.
The union said that the payment of new national minimum wage would affect and benefit all workers in the state  while implementation of promotions will only benefit the affected workers in the state.
Comrade Oshafu said that the essence of the meeting was to brief members on the outcome of NLC/TUC meeting with Gov. Abdullahi Sule on payment of new national minimum wage held on Monday, 12th Aug, 2024.
” We have call you to brief you on the outcome of NLC/TUC meeting with His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule on Monday, 12th August, 2024 on New national minimum wage payment to civil servants in the state.
“During the meeting, His Excellency has agreed to pay the N70,000 new minimum wage to civil servants as approved by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
” But NLC said that it want the government to first implement backlog of promotions to civil servants before any issue of payment of new  minimum wage and the Governor has agreed with NLC position” he said.
Oshafu said that the union was not against the implementation of promotions to civil servants as agreed by NLC in the state but let it be the other way round.
” What our members said and want first, is payment of new national minimum wage before implementation of promotions.
” As payment of new minimum wage will affect all workers while implementation of promotions will only affect few workers in the state”  he said.
The Chairman appreciated members for their positive contributions on the issue and promised to communicate their  resolutions to NLC and Government for necessary action.
” We are your representative, we will continue to represent you well.
” We have heard what you said and we will  inform the NLC and the government on your stand appropriately” he added.
The PASAN Chairman urged members to continue to remain  united and embrace peace for the progress of the association.
He appreciated the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau for being workers friendly and all inclusiveness.
