The Zamfara State Government has sent a high level delegation to Kaura Namoda General Hospital to investigate circumstances behind the disappearance of a ten days old baby in Kaura Namoda local government area.
The incident, according to a statement by the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, Suleiman Isa, occurred last Monday in the hospital’s labour room after a woman who was not in her senses following complicated childbirth was admitted into the hospital.
The statement added that, an unidentified woman wearing a face mask allegedly came in and took away the baby from the mother’s side and disappeared.
“The Zamfara State delegation, led by Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, visited the Kaura Namoda Emirate Council to sympathize with the Emirate and the family of the missing child over the unfortunate incident.
“During the visit, the commissioner also met with the baby’s mother, who is from Magarya Village. She expressed deep concern over the incident and assured the family that the state government is committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the baby’s disappearance”, the statement said.
It further explained that speaking during the visit, the Chairman of Kaura Namoda local government council, hon. Mannir Mu’azu Haidara, pledged to provide CCTV cameras to strengthen security at the affected hospital and to help prevent reoccurrence of the incident.
Also speaking, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Major Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad Asha (rtd), expressed appreciation to the state government for its concern and swift response to the incident. He also assured the delegation of the Emirate Council’s full support in ensuring a successful investigation.
Dr. Maradun said the Zamfara State Government is doing everything possible to investigate the matter and ensure the missing baby is recovered.
She also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist the ongoing investigations.
