Top contender for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a €100 million bid for Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Atalanta star has also received a similar offer from Paris Saint-Germain, with both clubs vying for his signature.
Lookman, 27, has been one of Serie A’s standout performers this season, impressing with his pace, agility, and attacking versatility. Renowned for his goal-scoring ability and creativity, he is considered one of the league’s most complete forwards, capable of thriving across multiple attacking roles.
He rose to prominence last season when his goals propelled Atalanta to their first-ever European trophy, netting a hat-trick in the Europa League final as they defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
PSG, under coach Luis Enrique, view Lookman as a critical addition to strengthen their attack as they pursue domestic and European success. Meanwhile, Manchester United, led by new manager Ruben Amorim, see the winger as a central figure in their squad overhaul. Lookman’s dynamic skill set aligns perfectly with United’s ambition to reclaim their status among Europe’s elite.
Atalanta, while valuing Lookman’s impact, are reportedly open to selling him. A potential transfer fee would provide a significant financial boost, allowing the Italian club to reinvest in their squad and continue their tradition of nurturing young talent.
Lookman’s stellar performances have also earned him a nomination for the Serie A Forward of the Year award at the prestigious Gran Galà del Calcio. He will compete with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, as well as AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
The Nigerian international is also in contention for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award after an exceptional 2023/24 season, during which he scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions for Atalanta. His brilliant form earned him 14th place in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings.
Lookman’s productivity peaked in the latter stages of the campaign, where he contributed 14 goal involvements (eight goals and six assists) from April onwards, more than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues. This season, he has continued to shine, recording eight goals and five assists in just 14 appearances for Atalanta.
