The Kebbi Development Forum (KDF) has commended the Kebbi State Government led by His Excellency, Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for releasing ₦650 million for the procurement of a 15 MVA transformer to boost electricity supply across the State.
The KDF gave the commendation in a statement by Chairman of its Executive Council, Dr Saidu Abubakar Illo and Secretary, Dr Abdullahi Sani Mungadi.
The KDF noted that this timely intervention will significantly alleviate the persistent power supply challenges faced by residents, businesses, and critical service providers throughout the state.
It applauded the State Government’s commitment, and urged the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to complement this effort by restoring electricity supply to October 2025 level and accelerate the deployment of prepaid meters to consumers at no cost, in line with regulatory provisions.
“The Forum also notes with satisfaction the recent signing into law of the Kebbi State Electricity Act, 2024, which aligns with the operational standards of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
“The Act provides a robust legal and institutional framework for addressing electricity generation, distribution, and regulation within the State. While commending the Governor for this strategic foresight, KDF calls on the State Government to expedite the appointment of qualified professionals into the Kebbi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), the Kebbi State Electricity Council, and the State Electricity Supply Company (SEPCO), to ensure effective sector governance, oversight, and investor confidence.
“The Forum similarly commends electricity consumers across the State for their resilience and growing interest in community-based electricity ownership models, which have the potential to enhance service delivery, accountability, and payment compliance.
*The KDF, through its Electricity Committee, reaffirms its commitment to sustained engagement with all relevant stakeholders in support of the State Government’s reform agenda and pledges its readiness to provide technical expertise and advisory support where necessary,” the Forum said in the statement.
