From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat armed robbery and kidnapping in the state.

According to DSP Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, several suspects have been arrested, and various firearms and stolen vehicles have been recovered under the direction of Commissioner of Police Rabi’u Muhammad.

On October 18, 2025, a team of operatives apprehended 28-year-old Murtala Usman, who was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 200 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Usman confessed to transporting AK-47 rifles to bandits’ camps in Kidandan, located in Giwa Local Government Area.

Further investigation revealed that he had transported four rifles to Kidandan within the previous four months.

In another incident on October 19, 2025, police operatives thwarted an armed robbery attempt at a bakery in Kafanchan.

The suspect, Usman Shauibu, also 28, was arrested, and authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle along with four rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and 43 pieces of 9mm Beretta pistol ammunition. Notably, the AK-47 rifle had been stolen from Inspector Ibrahim Nawa during a bandit attack on May 15, 2019.

Additionally, the command recovered 11 cattle suspected to have been rustled in Kudan Local Government Area.

They also seized two stolen vehicles, including a Honda Accord Saloon Car, from a gang of armed robbers. Following further investigation, two dark green Golf Wagon cars were recovered, one from Wudil Local Government Area in Kano State and the other from Kaduna.

Commissioner of Police Rabi’u Muhammad commended the operatives for their diligence and urged the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to help curb crime in the state.

He warned criminals to stay away, assuring the public that Kaduna is now safer than ever before.
