From Edirin Robinson, in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Government has moved to strengthen security and development in Kurmin Wali following a recent kidnapping incident that has left the community in distress.
Governor Uba Sani, during his visit to the area on Wednesday, 21st January, announced a dual-track intervention combining a new military presence with critical infrastructure projects.
The move follows a formal request to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), who has received approval the establish a military base.
This base is expected to create a rapid-response capability and provide a permanent security shield for the village and its surrounding community.
The commitment received support from leaders, including Hon. Fidelix Joseph Bagudu — Member, House of Representatives — and Hon. Usman Danlami Stingo — Member, Kaduna State House of Assembly — who issued a joint statement of appreciation for the Governor’s prompt response and empathy toward the affected families.
They emphasized that the visit—the first by a sitting governor to the village—has provided the much-needed reassurance to those whose sense of safety was shaken, noting that the Kaduna Peace Model recognizes that security and development are inseparable.
During the visit, community leaders noted that the 10-minute trip from the main highway currently takes 30 minutes due to dilapidated roads, hindering swift security responses.
To resolve this, the Governor announced the construction of an access road to ensure the community is no longer isolated and to facilitate the passage of security forces.
The intervention also includes the establishment of a new Primary Healthcare Center to provide essential medical services to the rural population.
The State Government is reportedly working directly with the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Defence to ensure the safe return of all abducted residents.
The lawmakers assured the community that their pain is acknowledged at the highest levels of government and that concrete steps are being taken to secure their release.
They appealed to the people of Kajuru LGA to remain calm and patient as these measures take effect, urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to facilitate the restoration of peace across the state.
