From Femi Mustapha in Kaduna
Residents of Ungwan Ate in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State took to the streets this morning, blocking the Kachia-Kaduna highway in protest against the relentless terrorist attacks plaguing their community.
The protesters, mostly youths, decried the increasing wave of banditry that has left them in fear for their lives.
According to residents, gunmen stormed the community on Monday night, operating for over two hours without any intervention from security forces, despite multiple distress calls.
The angry demonstrators questioned why insecurity persists in Kachia despite its high concentration of military and security formations. They lamented the daily attacks that have resulted in numerous deaths, kidnappings, and widespread fear.
One of the protesters who did not want his name in print said they had lost many souls to these attacks.
“Many of our people are in the bush, suffering for offenses they know nothing about. We can no longer go to our farms, and sleeping peacefully at night is now impossible. Who is killing us?”
The demonstrators called on the Kaduna State Government and the federal authorities to take immediate action to address the security crisis before it worsens.
They urged Nigerians to stand in solidarity with them, emphasizing that urgent intervention is needed to restore peace and security in the area.
