From Godwin Agia, in Jalingo
The Galadima Muri, of the Muri Emirate, and District Head Jalingo, Alhj. Lamindo Abba Tukur, has appealed to farmers and traders in Taraba to consider the plight of the poor and reduce prices of food items.
Alhj. Tukur made the appeal on Saturday during a 40th year anniversary on the throne as Galadima in Jalingo.
The Traditional ruler expressed worry that the daily increase in prices of food items was rather worsening the economic challenges of the indigent persons, and appealed for consideration.
According to him, the devaluation of the Naira in exchange for food has pose an impending situation on the poor that can best be described as calamity.
“I wish to appeal to both farmers and traders to consider the plight of the poor people and reduce prices of food items. The daily increase in prices of food items is worsening the economic challenges of the indigent persons. I want people in control of this aspect to consider the situation of the poor.
“The devaluation of the Naira in exchange for food is a terrible signal that the state of the indigent persons would worsen if not address”. He appealed.
The Galadima commended governor Agbu Kefas for the fight against insecurity in Taraba, described the development as outstanding in recent years of Nigeria’s thrive against insecurity.
“My decision to celebrate 40 years on the throne as Galadima today is due to governor Kefas’ deliberate fight against insecurity in Taraba. The governor’s fight against banditry has brought peace, not only in Jalingo but to the entire Taraba that allow people’s access to different means of daily earnings.
“As a traditional ruler, i find no joy in life when my people can not access their farms and businesses due to insecurity. I want to sincerely commend governor Agbu Kefas for the outstanding fight against insecurity in Taraba that is gradually restoring life, not only to the depressed persons but to the citizens”. Galadima commended.
Earlier, Alhj. Kabiru Mararafa, chairman of the occasion, and the Lamdo Bakundi, (HRH), Alhj. Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, both described the Galadima as one traditional ruler that the traditional institution would always use his leadership qualities and activities as reference point for positive decision and development of the institution in Nigeria.
