FG elevates LUTH spokesperson, Fakeye to Director

The federal government has announced the appointment of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) spokesperson, and former Deputy Director of Administration, Ms. Omolola Olubukunola Fakeye as the substantive Director of Administration of the country’s premier health manpower training institution.

A letter dated 10th June 2024 signed by the Director; Human Resources Management of the federal Ministry of Health, Ms. Tetahoma Dafeta on behalf of the Permanent Secretary addressed to Ms. Fakeye and copied the Chief Medical Director of LUTH conveyed the appointment to the LUTH management.

The document with reference number SMH 276/S.2/T./105 noted “following your performance at the interview conducted by the Ministry for the post of Director of Administration, I am directed to convey to you approval of the Permanent Secretary for your appointment as the substantive Director of Administration of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) with effect from May 31st, 2024.”

The appointment letter read further that “you are to report to the Chief Medical Director to whom a copy of the letter has been endorsed for further instruction.”

Fakeye becomes the first female to hold the position in the hospital’s 62- year history having served the institution for over 25 years and held various positions.

The political science graduated of the University of Ibadan also hold an MSc in Political Science, specializing in Public Administration in 1995 and 1998 respectively before obtaining her MBA (finance) from Lagos State University ( LASU) in 2005. 

A seasoned Human Resources Practitioner with over 25 years of experience in LUTH has also played significant roles such as accreditation desk officer, Secretary, Board of studies for LUTH Schools, Secretary, LUTH Schools, Academic Board and Unit Head, Junior Administration, Personnel Division.

Her other positions included Head, Human Resources Division, Principal Desk Officer, Servicom, And Head Corporate Services/ PRO.

Her profile indicated that the new admin director has also lecture management at School of Health Information Management for 18 years and served as examiner, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management for over 13years, a writer, CIPMN, manpower planning student study pack.

She was Charter President, Inner Wheel Club of LUTH, Past District Treasurer, District 911, Nigeria between 2017and 2018 and Vice President, Inner Wheel Club LUTH for 2023 and 2024. 

A statement by LUTH indicated that “In December 2023, she was appointed as the Acting Director of Administration here she oversees and manages the administrative functions, leveraging her extensive experience to drive excellence and growth.”

“Ms. Fakeye’s leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to efficiency, innovation and the highest standards of Healthcare administration. She aims to enhance operational effectiveness, foster a supportive and professional environment for staff and ensure the delivery of superior healthcare services.

“Her visionary approach and strategic initiatives are set to propel LUTH towards achieving greater milestones in Healthcare Administration and Patient Care, reinforcing the Hospital’s reputation as a leading institution.”
