From Joseph Uchenna, Makurdi

A 14-year-old Internally Displaced boy, Chagu Terhemen who was bitten by snake in an IDP camp in Agagbe, Gwer West Local Government of Benue State last Friday has died.

Chagu reportedly died on Monday night at the Benue State Teaching Hospital after the Executive Secretary State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA Dr. James Iorpuu had directed that he be taken to the hospital.

Recall that, Terhemen was bitten by a snake on Sunday while going to the farm with his father at Tse Kyomke mbapupuu in Gaambe Ushin Council Ward in Gwer West Local Government Area.

One of the displaced persons, Terna Ibaah had on the same day raised the alarm that the 14 year old snake bite victim had defied traditional treatment as he began to convulse.

Ibaah who sent a message to our correspondent Tuesday morning declared that the boy was rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi on the order of the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency and Management Agency, James Iorpuu on Monday.

He said, ” Benue State SEMA Boss Mr Iorpuu James Aondoakaa ordered that the boy who was bitten by snake be taken to Benue State University Teaching Hospitals for treatment but he died yesterday night been 1st September, 2025 at the hospital

Ibaah had also told journalists that about 12 displaced persons including the deceased had suffered snake bite in Agagbe camps between January and August ending.

“From January this year till now, we have recorded 12 victims of snake bite in Agagbe among the idps, fortunately, no one has died,” Ibaah said.
