Proscribed “ghost workers” in Taraba State, comprising Christians and Muslims, have turned to God with prayers, seeking divine intervention over 10 months of unpaid salaries.

The group, led by convener Abdurrauf Sani, held Friday prayers at Al-Huda Mosque in Jalingo, appealing to Governor Agbu Kefas to address their plight.
Sani noted that workers have been struggling for months, with six members having lost their lives and one battling with hepatitis, amid mounting bills and hardship, and expressed frustration, stating that previous efforts yielded no results, prompting them to seek God’s help.
According to him, the group plans to pray at a church on Sunday, demanding their rights.
“We are not ghost workers, we’re Taraba State government staff,” Sani emphasized but questioned why the governor is treating them differently.
“We are here to seek God’s intervention over the issue of unpaid worker’s salaries which have been going on for the past 10 months, all our previous struggle yielded no results that is why we are here in the mosque.
“You are aware that, as of the cause of this struggles we lost 6 members and one is currently battling with hapertitis infection in the hospital and many of us are struggling with other bills.
“Today we are here and Sunday we will be taking our prayers to Gospel House Church for prays so that God can change the narrative, we demand our 10 months salaries, we are not host workers we are staff of the Taraba State government, why is the governor treating us differently?.
“The suffering among our people is becoming unbearable that’s while we are here praying for God’s intervention.
“Governor Agbu Kefas has done very well in the area of security and education we pray God to bless him so that our issue also will be considered,” he said.
In his sermon, Shiek Prof. Usman Bakari prayed for the workers and urged the governor to address the issue promptly. He thanked the governor for his achievements, especially on free education and security, and urged support for his administration.
“Governor Agbu Kefas has done very well in security and education, we pray God to bless him so that staff issue will be considered,” he said.
