Protester: Tinubu’s economic policies ruining our lives

President Tinubu’s economic policies have ruined our lives, according to one of the protesters, Precious Oruche.

Precious, interviewed by AIT at the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protest, stated, “I’m here because I’m hungry. Hunger brought me here today.”

“Na hunger carry me come here today,” Precious said in pidgin English, which translates to “Hunger is why I’m here today.”

She explained, “Inflation and the way things have tripled in price at the market are why I’m here. It affects us personally, as humans and citizens. That’s why I joined the protest.”

Precious continued, highlighting the impact of rising prices: “Hunger, inflation… people can’t buy things in the market anymore. You can’t even afford the most common ingredients used to spice up food – crayfish, eggs, even the least expensive ones. Garri, a staple food, is now considered a luxury. Garri’s price is almost on par with rice, and you tell me I shouldn’t protest?”

She emphasized her desire for unity and equality: “Look, I don’t want to belong to any group. There are no ‘more Lagosian’ Lagosians. We’re all Nigerians, and what we want is equal treatment.”

Addressing the government’s response, specifically Tinubu’s allies asking for more time due to his one year in office, Precious argued, “One year isn’t enough to change the government, but it’s enough to increase fuel prices? It’s enough to bring policies and regulations that almost ruin our lives?”

“This is all about policies,” she concluded. “Bring the right policies and implement them effectively.”

“When Buhari was there, he said one year wasn’t enough. He spent eight years, and now it’s the same APC government. One year isn’t enough, but people are dying!”
