From Uthman Abubakar Maiduguri
As the country advances towards the 2027 general elections, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops and officers in the terror-troubled North-East to secure the region for the successful conduct of the elections.
In spite of reported improvement in the restoration of security in the North-East, Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists have continued to unleash sporadic attacks in Northern Borno senatorial zone, with the latest terrorists attack, last Tuesday, on a military formation at Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area where between 10 and 14 soldiers were reportedly killed.
Shaibu was at the North-East Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command headquarters in Maiduguri, Saturday, where he held a prolonged closed meeting with military commanders under the theater.
“It is a routine operational visit to boost the morale of the troops and appreciate and encourage officers for their resilience and performance in the war against insurgency in the North-East,” he told newsmen after the meeting.
“It is an operational visit to charge them to secure the region as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections,” he disclosed.
At a courtesy call the Army Chief paid Governor Babagana Zulum, the governor pleaded with him to fast-track the process for the establishment of the planned Operation Lake Sanity formation to secure the Lake Chad Basin against the incessant terror attacks. END
