Katsina governor earmarks N500m to tackle malnutrition

The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has secured approval from the State Executive Council (SEC), to release N500 million as State Government’s counterpart-fund to procure nutrients for the 2026, in efforts to manage acute malnutrition among children across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu said the intervention will help sustain the provision of essential nutrition commodities for children suffering from acute malnutrition and strengthen the state’s response to the condition.

Adamu said the approval was among the major decisions reached at the 15th Regular SEC Meeting of Katsina State chaired by Governor Radda on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

On the sideline of procurement of nutritional nutrients, the Special Adviser on Market Development to the governor, Alhaji Mustapha Bala Batsari revealed that the Council has approved the modernisation of selected markets in the three senatorial Districts of the state which include Dandume, Daura, Mashi and Jibia markets

Bala said the markets modernisation is part of efforts by administration of governor Radda to improve commercial infrastructures and boost socio-economic well-being of the people .

On his part, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Salisu Bala Zango added that the Council approved the procurement of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to less privileged and vulnerable residents across the state, noting that the intervention is part of measures by the Radda administration to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship and provide direct support to households in need.

He further disclosed that the Council approved the procurement and distribution of non-food items and cash support to vulnerable residents, particularly orphans, widows, persons with special needs and other less privileged members of society.

Zango, said the Council has also approved the rehabilitation of 81 Jumu’at Mosques across the 34 Local Government Areas the State.

He explained that the intervention is aimed at improving and maintaining religious infrastructure, promoting Islamic values and strengthening community cohesion.

On youth development, the Council also approved the establishment of Katsina State Model United Nations Organisation (MUNDO) as a government-led initiative supported by development partners.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina Development Management Board, Mustapha Shehu, said the initiative will expose talented youth diplomacy and public service in preparing them to future meaningfu in Katsina State.

Speaking on development coordination, Shehu disclosed that the Council approved a central coordination and evidence-clearing mechanism for HOPE-GOV, HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU to review programme requirements, aligned sectoral technical teams

He explained that the measure is expected to support effective implementation and maximise the benefits of the World Bank-supported projects particularly the “HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU.”

Shehu equally said that the Council approved the establishment of a statewide compliance framework for the utilisation of performance-based financing and reward funds, aimed at strengthening accountability and coordination in the implementation of development programmes.

Governor Radda reiterated his administration’s commitment to interventions which directly address the needs of citizens.
