World Humanitarian Day: Zamfara spends N7bn in humanitarian support for 290,000 IDPs

The Zamfara State Government has spent over 7 billion Naira on humanitarian support to cushion the hardship faced by the 290,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the 14 local government areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Hon. Salisu Musa Tsafe, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ummulkhairi Abubakar Usman on Tuesday while celebrating World Humanitarian Day 2026.
Ummulkhairi said that the Ministry in collaboration with collaborating NGOs and other humanitarian actors, has provided humanitarian support and assistance of over 7billion naira for the provision and distribution of food items, building materials, powered solar boreholes, livelihoods and empowerment support in the state.
She further said that other support rendered by the ministry included agricultural Inputs, nutritional assistance, drugs, Cholera kits, multi-purpose cash assistance, educational materials and clothes for the IDPs and Vulnerable population across the 14 local government areas of the state.
“I will like to use this platform to appreciate all our Humanitarian partners for the unwavering support and assistance they provide to the IDPs and vulnerable communities in the State. All your effort aligns with the present Govt’s priorities and Gov. Dauda Lawal’s rescue mission to provide durable solutions to vulnerable population and communities in the State.
“In June 2026, the Zamfara State Emergency Committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, recently visited the crises affected communities in Gummi and Maradun Local Government Areas and supported 20 families of deceased victims with 500 thousand Naira each, supported 40 hospitalized victims with 200 thousand Naira each and supported the IDPs in Camp-likes with over 500 bags of assorted food items.
“In October last year, the Committee also Supported 67 rescued kidnapped victims who were returned to their communities in Tsafe Local Government Area with food items, clothes and N350,000 each as livelihood support”, Ummulkhairi has stated.
The 2026 World Humanitarian Day has earlier commenced with about kilometer road walk started from Yarima Bakura Teaching Hospital with the presence of all concerned NGOs and other related stakeholders and terminated at the ministry.
