From Muhammad Ahmadu Saka, in Bauchi

Mother of eight year old girl allegedly defiled by a Staff of National Drug.Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA , Bauchi Office, has cried for justice over the incident.

The woman, speaking through her human right lawyer, Barrister Alkasim Mohammed who works with the the organization for African Child Development and Human Right Protection, said that when the incident happened, the mother reported the matter to the Police.

The police had arrested the suspect but refused to prosecute him for over three weeks after he was arrested.

Alkasim said the incident forced them to write a petition to the Bauchi State Police Commissioner seeking prosecution of the suspect.

He said their petition was tittled ‘Urgent Demand for Immediate Prosecution…’ of the suspect over offence of rape pursuant to the provision of section  278 & 279 a case for Justice.

Alkasim said “we rejoice and join hands with you in the enforcement of laws and combating crime in Bauchi State. It is with most respect to draw your attention to the encapsulated subject matter and strength of the complaint of the victim to our organization, the Organization for African Child Development and Human Right Protection. We write on the ostensible authority and the briefing of Salamatu Musa the mother of defiled victim of alleged rape”.

He recalled that on the 5th day of July, 2026, an “alleged case of rape against 45 years old Muhammad Mustapha Makama was reported at the E Division of the Bauchi Police by one Salamatu Musa of Dorawan Dillalai Bauchi, Bauchi State.”

“Muhammad Mustapha Makama a staff of the NDLEA was alleged to have raped eight (8) year girl. The innocent girl was sent to buy sachet/pure water at the residence of the alleged rapist who happens to be their neighbour and unfortunately the eight (8) years girl had her destiny defined by Muhammad Mustapha Makama. The alleged rapist had carnal knowledge of the innocent eight (8) years old girl without her consent to quench his sexual desire.  He has since been arrested and in custody of the police in Bauchi command for three (3) weeks or thereabout without being prosecuted”.

Alkasim  praised the Bauchi Police Commissioner and his men for arresting the suspect despite being a security personnel. Their effort in that regard is in line with the constitutional and statutory duties pursuant to the provisions of section 4 and 66 of the Police Act.”

He said the magnitude of the alleged offence required thorough investigation, scrutiny and timely prosecution in line with the extant legislations.

“Sir, rape cases have become prevalent in our societies and has caused serious damage to young girls, families and institutions. In Bauchi, almost 40 rape and sodomy cases or thereabout are being recorded across 43 Police Divisions in 6 Area command.”

Alkasim said that “It is on record that the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Bauchi State under his Constitutional powers had on the 23rd July, 2023 come out with legal advice/opinion necessary for the prosecution of the said suspect based on the available evidence and facts including medical report”.

He said that it is without any form of doubt that the Government, institutions, civil society organizations and the International community have prioritized fighting the menace. There are good State, Federal and International codified legislations that prescribe punishment for offences of rape with condemnations in various platforms.”

Alkasim said that “It came to our knowledge that personalities from various institutions, leaders and judges have been pressing to secure the suspect’s release by all means. We shall expose all in our subsequent follow up. If   suspected criminals are released on a platter of gold despite weighty accusations, then victims are likely to resort to self-help and lawlessness”.

He said they equally “draw the attention of the Director-General of the NDLEA and the Stand Commander to comply with all the extant regulations, particularly the NDLEA Act in dealing with the said suspect having regard to this case”‘

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the arrest and assured that the suspect will be taken to court by the Police.
