The Rivers State Police Command said it has arrested one Kelechi Nwofurum over the death of a 51 year old Keke bus driver, Ifeanyi Abobo.
The State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, CSP Grace Irengi Koko in a Press Statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the suspect hired Ifeanyi Abobo to carry some items for him but lured him inside bush, murdered him and made away with his Keke bus.
CSP Grace Iringe Koko disclosed that when the suspect took the Keke driver to the bush he hit him with wood and machete which made the deceased to collapse.
She said the suspect made away with the bus as soon as the deceased died.
Narrating his involvement in the incident the suspect said he contacted his cousin, Azubuike Onyemachi whi connected him to one Ubu Basille Ikenna,a motor parts dealer.
He said the motor parts dealer bought the vehicle at a cost of N 2.4 million.
“Mr Ikenna later sold the vehicle to one Imosonenti at N3.44 million naira while I (Nwofurum) sold the infinix phone collected from the deceased victim to one Chidi Njoku at the value of 45,000 naira, the suspect stated.
The PPRO said the suspect also confessed to have lured other Keke bus drivers to the bush,demobilized them and snatched their vehicles before the latest incident.
Koko said all the suspects were arrested following intelligence led policing by Special Operations and Intelligence Team.
She added that the Police has exhumed the corpse of the victim saying that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
