A Police Officer, Inspector Victor Okus attached to the 17 Police Mobile Force, PMF, in Port Harcourt but on a Special duty guard at Intels, Onne in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State has been arrested for shooting his colleague , Inspector Ibrahim Sani to death and injuring another Police Officer, Inspector Daniel Dauda.
A press statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday by the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Irengi Koko, said the Police Inspector shot his colleagues, Inspector Sani on the head and neck regions while the other Officer, Inspector Daniel Dauda sustained bullet injuries.
Koko said the deceased Police Officer and his colleague Dauda, before the incident, were attached to the 14 Police Mobile Force, PMF Yola in Adamawa State but were on a duty guard at Next Cash and Carry Supermarket located at the popular Trans Amadi Industrial Area in Port Harcourt.
Koko said the deceased Police Officer was promptly rushed to a private Hospital in Port Harcourt where he was confirmed dead while his colleague Inspector Dauda is still receiving medical treatment at the same Hospital.
She said the corpse of the dead Police Officer has been deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary, Port-Harcourt for preservation and autopsy.
She said, “The Rivers State Police Command is deeply saddened to report a tragic and distressing incident that occurred on Sunday, January 18, 2026, resulting in the loss of a dedicated Police Officer, Inspector Ibrahim Sani ‘m’ who was shot dead by his colleague. The suspect, Inspector Victor Okus, who was attached to 17 PMF, but on special duty at Intels, Onne, has been arrested and is currently in Police custody.
“According to the Unit Commander (U/C) 14 PMF, DSP Turaki Hassan’s accounts and preliminary investigations, the tragic incident occurred at about 1320hrs at Next Cash and Carry Supermart, Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt, where Inspector Ibrahim Sani ‘m’ and Inspector Daniel Dauda ‘m’ all attached to 14 PMF, Yola, were on joint guard duty with military personnel.
“Inspector Okus shot his colleagues on the head and neck regions. The injured Officers were promptly rushed to Nopsam Hospital for Medical treatment, while Inspector Sani was confirmed dead Inspector Dauda is still receiving medical treatment. Sani’s corpse has been deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary, Port-Harcourt for preservation and autopsy.”
She said that the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju has directed a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident, ensuring that the circumstances surrounding the act are thoroughly examined.
She said the suspect will face an Orderly Room Trial and subsequently charge to court for prosecution, assuring that justice will be served.
She stated further that the Commissioner of Police advised Officers that are assigned with firearms while on duty is a serious responsibility and not a routine task saying that it is crucial to prioritize safety and the safety of others so as to prevent potential tragedies.
She noted that the State Police Command has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and friends of Inspector Sani and further reaffirming the Command’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability within the force.
