From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone B, Kaduna, has formally handed over a significant seizure of donkey bones and skins to the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
This move underscores the NCS’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting endangered species.
The NCS operatives intercepted 700 bags of donkey bones and 2,500 pieces of donkey skin in separate anti-smuggling operations.
These items were handed over to Mr. Hene Emmanuel, NESREA’s Kaduna State Coordinator, during a ceremony held in Kaduna.
Comptroller Aminu Sule emphasized that the illegal slaughter and trade of donkey parts pose significant ecological and socioeconomic threats to rural communities.
He reiterated the NCS’s resolve to prevent Nigeria from being used as a transit point for illegal wildlife trade.
The NCS is dedicated to enforcing environmental laws and protecting endangered species. The operation demonstrates the NCS’s commitment to deepening collaboration with partner agencies.
Comptroller Sule called on communities, transporters, warehouse owners, and traders to report suspicious activities linked to wildlife trafficking.
