The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) and erstwhile Governor of Rivers State, Mr Nyesom Wike is to face the disciplinary committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over alleged anti-party activities.
This was confirmed by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi, while speaking on Channels Television’s personality programme, “Sunrise Daily” programme on Monday.
The PDP has already summoned Wike to appear before its disciplinary committee chaired by a former Minister of External Affairs and elder statesman, Chief Tom Ikimi.
The FCT Minister, it was learnt, was summoned via a letter to appear before the committee, which was put in place by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Hon. Abdullahi disclosed that the PDP had been inundated with numerous petitions against Wike and other party members bordering on the allegations of anti-party activities and sabotage of the party.
According to him, “Three weeks ago, we put up two committees in place; that of reconciliation and disciplinary, and Nyesom Wike is one of the persons to face the disciplinary committee, which is headed by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi.
“The disciplinary committee will look into issues of anti-party activities.
“We’ve been receiving petitions regarding anti-party activities or sabotaging the party throughout the primary, leading to where we are now.
“These petitions against Wike and other party members have been aggregated and sent to the committee.
“Some party members even felt that Wike shouldn’t have gotten to this level still as a member of the PDP and they have been writing to the leadership”, he said.
Hon. Abdullahi further stated that comments made by the former Rivers State governor threatening to “putting fire in their states” in obvious reference to PDP governors were wrong and unacceptable.
“Wike should be able to manage his words carefully; that was a very disappointing remark.
“We weren’t expecting him to say that, and to be honest with you, we are not with him on that”, the PDP deputy national spokesperson said.
It will be recalled that Wike, had, few days ago expressed his delightedness to work for the President Bola Tinubu-led administration inspite of criticisms and his threats against PDP governors supporting Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
Wike, while addressing party members at the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, on Saturday, threatened to cause a political crisis in the states of any PDP governor who tried to interfere in the party’s affairs in Rivers State.
He stated that anyone who was not happy with him for serving in Tinubu’s government “should go and hug the transformer.”
