An update has emerged in respect of the burial artangements for the late Newswatch co-founder, Yakubu Mohammed.
The update from Alhaji Yakubu Akor who earlier confirmed the death to Citizenship Newspaper said the burial will now take place in his hometown of Ologba in Kogi State.
“I have confirmed from Lagos that the body will be conveyed to his home town, Ologba in Dekina LGA Kogi State for burial,” Akor said in a short update to Citizenship.
The decision to bury Mohammed at home, Akor said, came after consultations among family members considering the status of the departed as a community leader and model.
The late Mohammed died in Lagos on Wednesday, January 14, after a brief illness.
He was born on April 4, 1950, in Kogi State and held a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos.
He was a pillar of Nigerian journalism, serving as an editor for New Nigerian and National Concord before co-founding Newswatch in 1984 alongside Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu, and Dan Agbese.
Shortly before his death, he published his memoir, Beyond Expectations, in late 2025.
