UBEC tasks school managers on use of emotional intelligence

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, has implored school leaders to apply the highest levels of emotional intelligence in discharging their leadership responsibilities.
Dr Bobboyi made the challenge while declaring open a three-day leadership training workshop for Vice Princplas of UBE Model Smart Schools organised by the UBEC Digital Resource Center atKado-Kuchi, Abuja.
The Executive Secretary who spoke through the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Center (DRC), Prof. Bashir Galadanci, also used the platform and charged the School managers to mentor and coach young school leaders in the manner that would prepare them properly for future administrative roles.
Also speaking in the same vein, the Head of Capacity Building at the DRC, Dr. Hafsat L. Kontagora, equally emphasized the need to train school administrators in leadership competencies as part of the Smart School system.
Dr Hafsta who delivered a welcome addrss at the occasion furher noted that it was essential to enhance the capacity of Vice Principals to mentor and coach smart school teachers to perform their duties effectively.
The training was designed to enable the Vice Principals to develop interpersonal skills and apply emotional intelligence in school leadership and to enhance leadership competencies as well as mentoring, and coaching abilities.
The three-day activity educated the Vice Principals on developing a leadership mindset and acquiring skills to understand and manage their emotions and those of others, communicate effectively, solve problems, and build a collaborative system.
The programme was also aimed at equipping school leaders with the skills necessary to foster excellence in school leadership and create an engaging learning environment. The workshop featured interactive sessions, practical activities, and group work to ensure skills transfer and actionable outcomes.
