From Godwin Agia, in Jalingo
The Taraba State government has suspended seven secondary school principals for allegedly sabotaging the free education programme policy brought by Governor Agbu Kefas.
The programme is to provide free education in government public primary schools across the State, including payment of WAEC and NECO fees for all prospective candidates.
When contacted, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr Augustina Godwin explained that the suspended principals continued to extort money from students, undermining the state government’s policy.
According to her, “The suspended principals were found sabotaging the free education policy of the State government,”
The affected schools include Government Day Secondary school Kofai, Salihu Dogo, Kunini, Jouro Yinu, Kakulu, Takum and Yakassai in Wukari LGA.
According to the C
ommissioner, the principals were found to have engaged in various forms of extortion, including collecting money for NECO and selling WAEC slots to external candidates.
“The State government will leave no stone unturned to bring to book those working round the clock to make the policy a nightmare,” she said.
