The Nasarawa State Police Command has made significant breakthroughs in the fight against crime, arresting a notorious kidnap kingpin and several gang members.
A statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel said Mohammed Bammi, alias “Zomo,” a dreaded armed robbery and kidnap kingpin, was apprehended by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to Doma Division.
He said Zomo, who had narrowly escaped arrest last month when his gang members were apprehended, was finally caught during a clearance operation at Doka forest.
“During the operation, the police recovered several dangerous exhibits, including one pump-action rifle (Breech No. P331551), one locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two live ammunition and five cartridges, one knife and a rope, two Tecno handsets, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.
The PPRO also said in a separate operation, undercover operatives attached to Awe Area Command arrested five suspected members of a notorious 10-man kidnapping syndicate.
The suspects, identified as Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde (alias Okocha), were found to be responsible for the kidnapping of Blessing John and her husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024.
He said during the operation, police recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live ammunition from the suspects.
Nansel said the state commissioner of Police, Mohammed Jauro has commended the gallant officers for their courage and professionalism, charging them to intensify the heat on criminals until the state is completely free of kidnappers and armed robbers.
According to the PPRO all arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
