The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully foiled an attempt by armed bandits to block Tsafe-‘Yankuzo federal highway as it confirmed the arrest of suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari, a.k.a ‘Bingil’.

According to the statement signed by the Zamfara Police Command PPRO, DSP Yazid Abubakar, it revealed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command led by ASP Aliyu Bilyaminu Koko, while on routine patrol along the Tsafe–Yankuzo axis, received credible and timely intelligence that armed bandits, carrying sophisticated weapons, had blocked the Tsafe–Yanwarin Daji road.
“Upon swift response and arrival at the scene, the bandits opened fire on the police team, resulting in a fierce gun duel. During the exchange of fire, some of the bandits fled into the bush with possible gunshot injuries, while others jumped into a nearby riverside and escaped.
“However, one suspected bandit, Umar Alhaji Buhari, AKA “Bingil,” surrendered and was arrested. The suspect is currently in police custody and will be subjected to thorough investigation, after which appropriate legal action will be taken.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the good people of Zamfara State for providing timely and useful information that aided the prompt Police response. He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to support the Police with credible and actionable intelligence to enhance security operations in the State”, the statement solicited.
In another development, the Command has foiled an attempted invasion of Maru metropolis by another armed group of bandits who planned a mass abduction in the early hours of Sunday, 28th December 2025.
The statement further revealed that, acting on timely intelligence, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Community Protection Guards, and Vigilante Groups swiftly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat with suspected gunshot injuries.
No casualties or abductions were so far recorded. However, Security has since been reinforced in Maru and surrounding areas.
