From Femi Mustapha, Kaduna.
Following the removal of the electricity subsidy, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN,) has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC,) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC,) to take actions that stabilize the price of goods and services in the Country.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National President of the Council, Isah Abubakar and made available to the media in Kaduna Sunday.
Expressing the Group’s concerns over the constant inflation in the price of goods and services, Abubakar said that “it is very unfortunate that the president has not been on the page of the reality of things.”
According to him, the outrageous increment in electricity tariff can only happen under a president who is not in tune with the suffering of citizens.
He said that with the recent policy of increasing electricity tariffs, no doubt, the cost of production, particularly that of Small Scalgoll will go high, and result in a negative impact on the Country.
While calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen his administration by enforcing plans that will develop the country, the youth group also tasked NLC and TUC, to take measures to effect changes on the policies ss they affect the economic sector.
He also tasked them to help in the regulation of prices of goods and services.
“The president needs to understand that the purpose of governance is to bring ease and succour to the people, not hardship,” the youth group said.
“We call on the President to have a rethink on the policy that will drag people into more suffering than they are already in now. The removal of fuel subsidy has caused more havoc than we all can imagine.”
“Making things worse is the recent removal of the electricity subsidy, which shouldn’t be the way to go at this critical time of his government.”
“With the recent policy of increasing electricity tariffs, no doubt, the cost of production, particularly that of small scale, will skyrocket, which hurts the the life of citizens.”
“We urgently want the president to avoid any move policies that will continue to endanger the progress of the country as well as affect the livelihood of Nigerians.”
