From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The National Liberation Patriots (NLP) have formally joined the Action Alliance (AA), marking a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The integration was solidified today, , through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasizing the shared vision of both groups for justice, equity, and national progress.

National Chairman of AA, Hon. Dr. Adekunle Rufai Omo-Aje, described the merger as a crucial step toward strengthening democratic ideals, including transparency and accountability. He welcomed the NLP, particularly its North-West Zone members, as key partners in the drive to promote good governance.

Omo-Aje also issued a stern rebuke to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its continued non-compliance with multiple court judgments regarding the expulsion of former AA member Kenneth Udeze. “We condemn INEC’s flagrant disregard for the rule of law,” he said, referencing rulings by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court that upheld Udeze’s removal from the party.

Citing several landmark judgments, Omo-Aje pointed out that the courts, including the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, had repeatedly confirmed Udeze’s expulsion, with financial penalties imposed on his legal representatives for misrepresenting his status. The most recent judgment in May 2024 by the Supreme Court struck down an appeal by Udeze’s associates, affirming his non-membership.

The chairman further alleged that some cabals within INEC’s Election and ICT departments were involved in unauthorized name removals from the electoral body’s portal, undermining judicial rulings. He called on INEC to uphold the judiciary’s authority and urged Nigerians to reject actions that could compromise democracy.

“This partnership with NLP is a call to all Nigerians to join us in building a just, equitable, and prosperous nation,” Omo-Aje concluded, emphasizing the importance of unity in the face of ongoing political challenges.
