From Abubakar Abdullahi, in Lafia
The Nasarawa State Coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Zakariah Andekun Ishaku, has urged governments, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and stakeholders to collaborate with the Commission to increase awareness about National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment.
He emphasizes the importance of synergy in reaching more Nigerians and ensuring widespread participation in the NIN registration process.
Zakariah highlighted that NIN enrollment is essential for all Nigerians and legal residents, as it is required for various services such as education, banking, and government interventions.
The NIMC Head in the state stressed that without adequate awareness, people may not understand the value of NIN registration, which could hinder enrollment efforts.
The Coordinator emphasized that stakeholders’ collaboration is crucial for the success of the NIN registration drive.
He pointed out that NIN is vital for students, farmers, and vulnerable members of society.
“Students need NIN to sit for exams like WAEC and JAMB, while farmers require it to access government support”.
“Vulnerable individuals also benefit from having their NIN linked to the National Social Register, which helps track beneficiaries and prevent identity theft.”
Zakariah urged stakeholders to work with NIMC to sensitize and register everyone, emphasizing the need to safeguard NINs once obtained.
He encouraged parents to ensure their children and wards obtain NINs and stressed that registration should not be delayed.
The State Coordinator highlighted achievements since taking office, including increased awareness efforts and uniting staff to work as a team.
He called on staff to sustain this momentum to achieve the Commission’s mandate.
