The Senate has resolved to investigate the circumstances that surrounded the kidnapping of 24 students of Government Comprehensive Secondary School (GCSS), Maga in Kebbi state.

The red chamber equally resolved to investigate the killing of Brigadier-General Uba Musa by ISWAP terrorists in North East Nigeria.

The resolution came following the motion on “Urgent Need to Address Escalating Insecurity in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger States – Call for Immediate and Comprehensive Federal Intervention” sponsored by Senator Lola Ashiru (Kwara South), Deputy Senate Leader.

Senate mandated its joint security-related committees on Defence, Army, Air Force, National Security and Intelligence, Interior, Special Duties, and Police Affairs to investigate who  gave the order withdrawing security from GCSS, Maga shortly before the kidnappers struck the school on the fateful day and report back within two weeks.

The Senate said it has credible intelligence that someone gave an order for the withdrawal of soldiers from the Kebbi school a few minutes before the bandits stuck and  wants the committee to investigate the circumstances leading to it

The Senate also moved that the Joint Committees investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing of General Uba Musa.

The Senate was deeply disturbed by the horrific attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on November 18, 2025, during which heavily armed assailants invaded the place of worship, killed two innocent worshippers, and abducted 38 persons, all of whom have since been freed following coordinated security operations.

It noted with grave concern that the attack compelled school closures in five Local Government Areas of Kwara State (Ekiti, Ìsìn, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Oke-Ero), across the entire Niger and Kebbi States, and in all 47 Federal Unity Schools nationwide, thereby disrupting the education of thousands of children and exposing the depth of national fear.

The Senate therefore resolved to “call on communities in Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, and across Nigeria to remain united, vigilant, and supportive of security efforts, while resisting internal collaborators who undermine national security.

“Commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their rapid interventions and urge them to sustain coordinated operations until all abducted persons nationwide are rescued and perpetrators apprehended.

“Urge the Federal Ministry of Works to commence immediate reconstruction of the Idofian–Omu-Aran–Eruku–Egbe–Kabba federal highway.

“Mandate the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and Defence Intelligence Bureau to intensify intelligence-driven operations including aerial surveillance, forest combing, cross-state collaboration, and community-based intelligence systems across Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, Niger, and other hotspots.

“Call for the establishment of a Joint Task Force (JTF) covering the Kwara–Kogi corridor, with forward operating bases in Eruku, Babanla, Oke-Ero, and Isanlu.

“Direct the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and NEMA to provide immediate relief support to traumatized families and affected communities, especially where schools have been shut down.

“Mandate the Senate to investigate the root causes of rising insecurity and the role of internal collaborators, and report back within 14 days.

Advice the Federal government to strengthen the local vigilante to be able to respond swiftly to similar attack in future. This should also include a review of Nigeria firearm law to reflect the current security challenges as we have in over 175 countries where responsible citizens are permitted to own guns.

“Resolve that the Senate undertakes a diplomatic engagement with the United States of America and other allied nations Parliaments to strengthen cooperation on intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism training, and technological support in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
