Kano Governor, Yusuf harps on importance of Orange Economy in creating jobs, driving economic growth

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf Yusuf, has emphasized that the orange economy remains a vital catalyst for job creation and enhanced economic growth.

Highlighting Kano’s vast potential, the Governor noted that strategic investments and focus on the orange economy would significantly add value to economic development within the state and across Nigeria at large.

Represented by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, the Governor praised the contributions of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies toward national building.

This is according to a press release signed by the Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustafa Muhammad and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

The Governor commended the delegation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru for choosing Kano State for its one-week study tour focused on the Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.

Speaking at a dinner organized to conclude the study tour, the Governor warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed deep appreciation for their visit.

He noted that participants of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026. had valuable opportunities to interact with government institutions, traditional leaders, the private sector, and members of the public, alongside visiting key cultural sites and markets.

The Governor expressed optimism that these engagements provided the delegation with useful insights into Kano’s development realities, economic challenges, rich hospitality, and renowned entrepreneurial spirit.

Led by Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh, mni the delegation visited Kano to assess state development programmes, engage with stakeholders, and examine how the state harnesses its human, creative, and entrepreneurial resources.

At the conclusion of the tour, Brigadier General Jimoh commended the Kano State Government for its proactive efforts to promote creativity, entrepreneurship, and economic expansion.

He described Kano as a major historical and modern center of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, trade and human capital.

Furthermore, he noted that Kano’s long-standing history in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, fashion, agriculture, manufacturing, and creative expression provides a strong bedrock for the growth of the Orange Economy.

The delegation observed massive potential across traditional crafts, film, media, design, music, publishing, cultural tourism, and digital enterprise.

Brigadier General Jimoh specifically highlighted key state initiatives, including the revival of 26 entrepreneurship skills training schools which have equipped thousands of youths with vocational proficiencies, working tools, and start-up capital support.

He stated that these measures demonstrate how the Orange Economy can generate wealth, empower women and youth, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen Kano’s contribution to the national economy.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani, mni welcomed and thanked the delegation for selecting Kano as a study focus.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to committee members and the NIPSS delegation for a successful engagement.
