From Femi Mustapha, in Kaduna

The former Kaduna State Governor, Mal. Nasir El-Rufai has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), alleging “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations” of the Police Act by the Kaduna State Police Command.

The petition comes after El-Rufai was invited by the police for questioning over alleged conspiracy, incitement, and disturbance of public peace.

El-Rufai claims the police command has engaged in acts “unbecoming of their calling” since the current Commissioner of Police assumed office on December 30, 2024.

He alleges that some police officers are serving interests other than those conferred by law, which negatively affects the image of the police and undermines public confidence in its leadership.

El-Rufai accuses the Kaduna State Police Command of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and serial violations of the Police Act.

He urged the PSC to launch an immediate and impartial investigation into the alleged misconduct.

The Kaduna Police Command had summoned El-Rufai and six other party members to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to clarify allegations reported against them.

The former governor expressed concern about the Nigerian Police Force, stating that it’s the only frontline law enforcement institution in the country.

He emphasized the duty of citizens to support the police and ensure the PSC can exercise its regulatory powers to enforce discipline and promote ethical conduct among police officers.

The PSC is expected to investigate the allegations and take necessary actions to address any misconduct. The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to react officially to the petition.
