A plot to create division in the North by targeting Christians for attack by terrorists is brewing, according to Reverend Joseph John Hayab, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Hayab said in an interview with journalists that intelligence suggests plans to target Christians in the North Central region, particularly in Kogi and Kwara states, with the intention of fostering division and instability in the area.
“We urge Christians in these states not to panic, but to remain vigilant and prayerful, and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies,” Hayab stated.
He said that terrorists should not be sympathized with, as their victims include both Christians and Muslims.
He also noted that the military’s efforts to counteract terrorism are not aimed at any particular religion but are meant to combat a common enemy.
Additionally, Hayab commended recent philanthropic efforts by CAN, which have provided food relief items to thousands of families, and expressed a commitment to continue and expand these initiatives to other states.
He said that the relief efforts are not limited to the North but also extend to other parts of the country, including Ondo State, as part of the aim to build bridges across Nigeria.
