The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution calling on Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia to suspend the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Dr. Grace Adagba for a period of six months.
The House also, directed the Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Denen Aondoakaa to forthwith stop releasing funds to the board.
The House took the decision during its plenary presided over by the Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh as Bemdoo Ipusu representing Katsina-Ala West informed the house that the Chairman had refused to honour invitation by the adhoc committee constituted by the house to investigate her illegal activities at the board.
Ipusu stated that the SUBEB chairman had written to the House, insisting that it has no right to investigate contracts executed by the board, accusing the chairman of deliberately obstructing the House from exercising its constitutional oversight mandate.
Contributing, members expressed strong displeasure over the SUBEB Chairman’s behavior and urged the House to recommend her immediate suspension.
Ruling, the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, maintained that the house is committed to upholding the principle of accountability and good governance in all matters of public interest.
